Salinas Fire academy

The Salinas Fire Department’s intensive 16 to 18-week in-house academy provides recruits with comprehensive training in essential firefighting techniques, including hose operations, ventilation, and hazardous materials handling. Guided by a specialized cadre of department members, recruits undergo rigorous instruction and assessment to ensure readiness for real-world firefighting scenarios. 

ACADEMY OVERVIEW

      • The Salinas Fire Department’s in-house academy spans approximately 16 to 18 weeks, offering recruits an intensive training experience.
      • Sessions are held Monday through Friday, from 0800 to 1700 hours, ensuring a structured learning environment.
      • Recruits benefit from the guidance of a specialized cadre comprising five department members, committed to facilitating the academy and ensuring recruit success.
      • The academy covers a wide range of topics, including physical conditioning and all fundamental firefighting techniques and protocols taught in a basic fire academy.

ACADEMY FEATURES

    The academy curriculum covers a wide range of critical subjects essential for firefighting proficiency. Recruits undergo comprehensive training in Hose Operations, Ladder Operations, Ventilation techniques, Rapid Intervention Crew protocols, and HAZMAT procedures. Additionally, instruction includes Rope Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Forcible Entry techniques, and Wildland Fire Operations. Recruits also receive Driver Operator Training and participate in Live Fire exercises to ensure thorough preparation for real-world scenarios.
